    • Harding - In this village, Sunday, Nov. 25th, Mary A., wife of George Harding, aged 38 years, 1 month and 23 days.

We are brought again to the painful task of recording the presence of Death in our little community - a duty sad at any time, yet more distressing in this. For many months her health had been in decline, but not until about two weeks since was she confined to her bed. Her disease seemed to be physical prostration - a gradual, painless wasting away. She appeared perfectly conscious to the last, and just before her death death requested her husband to raise her up, as had been done before and seemed to give ease; but this time he felt her head on his arm grow heavier, and the watchers saw the swift-approaching change which deepened as they laid her tenderly back upon the pillow -

"And death so gently o'er her crept We deemed not that she died, but slept."

Deceased was a lady loved, honored and respected far and near. Of a quiet, modest, soulful nature, her greatest comfort found its source in the companionship of husband and children. There were centered her fondest hopes and tenderest ties. For them she lived, and the impress of her many Christian virtues we see transmitted to her bereaved family. She has ascended to a higher life. The tender affection that was ever present in the home circle of companion and little ones, the gentle, loving Christian counsels, exist but in a sweet memory; the kindly, cheerful voice is forever silent; the loved one sleeps in eternal rest! May infinite consolation descend upon the sorrowing and desolate household. [5]
